Sustainable Practices
The urgency for businesses to embrace eco-friendly processes is growing, especially in the high-impact shipping industry. At DCL Logistics, we're deeply committed to reducing our environmental footprint, recognizing our critical role in the supply chain. We've embraced renewable energy and utilize sustainable materials to fulfill our corporate responsibility.
Eco-Focused Fulfillment
Focus on renewable energy
In 2007, we installed our first solar system at the DCL Logistics headquarters in Fremont, California. The 287 kW system was the largest commercial installation in the area at the time. It was one of our first structural steps toward our commitment to renewable energy. Today, we have a 1,257 kW system powering four of the six DCL Logistics facilities in the US.
By building a sizable solar system and designing our facilities to consume less energy, we offset our energy requirements by 72%.
Sustainability Initiatives
Right Sized Packaging
In collaboration with our customers, we can customize shipping boxes to precisely fit products, reducing excess packaging. We also promote smaller packing slips and the use of compostable air fillers over traditional materials. These initiatives are estimated to cut our waste by up to 20% per order.
Eco-Friendly Packaging
We emphasize sustainable shipping by utilizing 100% recycled material for our boxes, pushing for minimal or no packing slips, and employing void fillers made from recycled plastics alongside traditional paper dunnage options. Additionally, we use paper tape to secure our packages. This strategy demonstrates our dedication to lessening our environmental impact, all while ensuring the security of our packages.
DCL is ISO 9001 certified, an international standard that defines requirements for a quality management system (QMS). We leverage ISO standards to reduce waste and increase efficiency.
Green Facilities
Our facilities are equipped with environmentally friendly Electric Material Handling Equipment, including all-electric forklifts. We also utilize LED and Motion-Sensor Lighting, along with extensive skylight installations, to maximize natural lighting, showcasing our commitment to energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
Recycling and Waste Reduction
We achieve significant waste reduction by recycling approximately 79% of our dunnage materials and implementing water-efficient bathrooms with autoflush systems and air dryers.
We partner with our customers to use shippable packaging, instead of putting them in an extra box before sending them to customers. This reduces packaging waste, improves shipping costs, and provides a better unboxing experience.
